The Cause
One woman dies every ten hours from ovarian cancer – it’s a hideous statistic. Mortality rates are so high because there is no early detection test. Alarmingly, one third of all women believe that there is an early detection test, while 50% of people mistakenly believe that a pap smear will detect ovarian cancer. Studies have found that more than 80% of women are in the advanced stages of the disease when they are diagnosed. Of this group there is a five year survival rate of only 20-30%. By contrast, the five year survival rate for patients who are diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the early stage 1 of the disease is 80 – 100%. Clearly, the development of an early detection test for ovarian cancer promises to save thousands of women’s lives and promote better five year survival rates for sufferers.
NAB is committed to raising awareness and funds to find an early detection test for this insidious disease. This August and September you can help our OCRF fundraising any way that suits you. There’s a $10,000 NAB smart everyday bank account to reward the highest fundraiser.
